About OKD

At OKD Magazine, we like to read the odd, the off-kilter, and the just plain weird. We like things that are funny, things that are sad, and things that are funny and sad at the same time. We especially love to read the experimental, the surreal, and the genre-bending.

Some of our favorite poets are Amy Gerstler, Danez Smith, Tracy K. Smith, Brenda Shaughnessy, Alison Benis White, Jericho Brown, Claudia Rankine, James Tates, and Ilya Kaminsky.

Some of our favorite flash fiction and short story writers are Amy Hempel, Lydia Davis, Deb Olin Unferth, Amber Sparks, Roxane Gay, Carmen Maria Machado, George Saunders, and Ben Loory.

The mission of OKD Press is to highlight and celebrate the dynamic work of first and second time authors with an emphasis on marginalized and under-represented voices. We’re also looking for emerging authors with a unique perspective that conveys strange and compelling narratives through short, compact flash fiction and poetry collections.

Okay Donkey Magazine and Press has recently started a substack newsletter to send out to all our fams, fans, and friends with updates about what’s going on over at OKD headquarters like book releases, special events, online readings, nominations and awards, general news, and updates.
